No charge and no need to make a reservation.

Do we really need to have AIS displayed on a chart plotter? That's really difficult on a J105.

Yes, it's required and it's not difficult unless you wait until the last minute.

My fixed mount VHF is Standard Horizon GX2400 which does have an AIS receiver, that's the one I need to connect the gateway to (think it supports both NMEA versions). But since I don't actually have an NMEA bus (neither 183 nor 2000) can I plug in the gateway into the VHF directly?

Your GX2400 with AIS has a NMEA 0183 output that is compatible with the WiFi hotspot bridges.

What do I do if I sold my boat?

Use the link in your invitation email (the one that says something like "not interested this year") and choose "Sold this boat / no longer own it." That closes out your old boat's record so we stop emailing you about it, and takes you straight to creating an account for your new boat. Don't create a new account on your own first - that link handles both steps.

I'm crewing on a boat - how do I get my waiver/registration link?

Every crew member requests their own personal link by email - the skipper can't request it for you, and links can't be forwarded (each one only works for the person who requested it).

Adult crew (18+): Send an email to events@oiyc.org with the word "crew" somewhere in the subject line, from your own personal email account. You'll get your link back within minutes - check your spam folder if you don't see it.

Crew under 18: A parent or guardian sends the email instead, from their own account, with both "parent" and "crew" in the subject line.

Important: the word has to be in the subject line, not just the body of the email - our system can't reliably tell what a request is about otherwise. Also, your email account needs to send your real name along with your address (not just the address by itself) - most accounts already do this, but if a request comes back saying otherwise:
